Surface finishing should support brand positioning, handling durability and production control, not decoration alone.
Use the points below as a sourcing checklist before requesting samples or confirming mass production.
Choose finishes by function
Lamination protects the full printed surface, foil adds a metallic focal point, spot UV creates gloss contrast, and embossing or debossing changes the surface relief.
A finish should support the brand hierarchy and handling requirements instead of being added to every graphic element.

Match the finish to the substrate
Fine foil and spot UV hold more consistently on smooth coated stock than on rough or highly absorbent paper. Deep embossing needs enough material thickness and clearance around folds.
Confirm whether the finish will cross a crease, glue area, window edge or small text before final artwork is released.

Approve with physical samples
Digital renders cannot fully show gloss, texture, foil tone or registration tolerance. Review a material swatch or printed sample under the lighting used for retail approval.
The production check should cover color, finish position, adhesion, scratching, cracking at folds and consistency across the approved sample set.

Sample and approval checkpoints
Use a structural sample to verify size and fit, then a printed sample when color, material and finishing need approval. Record the accepted specification so production is checked against the same reference.
- Confirm dimensions and product fit
- Approve material, print color and finishing
- Confirm packing method and master-carton details
- Keep one approved reference for production QC
Information to send for quotation
A useful inquiry gives the supplier enough information to recommend a realistic structure and production route.
- Product dimensions, weight and reference photos
- Target quantity and expected reorder plan
- Artwork status, colors and required finishes
- Delivery country, target date and confirmed compliance notes
Send your product details and target market so Jiahui Printing can review structure, material, finishing and export packing together.
