Common carton styles

Straight-tuck and reverse-tuck cartons suit many lightweight retail products. Auto-lock or crash-lock bottoms add faster loading and more base support, while sleeves and window cartons serve specific display needs.

The right style depends on product weight, loading direction, shelf orientation and whether the carton will be packed manually or by machine.

Dieline and product fit

A dieline controls cut lines, creases, glue areas, flaps and safety zones. Final dimensions should be based on the actual product or approved insert, not only a nominal product size.

Allow for board thickness, closing clearance, barcode areas and any window film before artwork is adapted to the structure.

Prototype and packing checks

A plain structural sample verifies fit and loading before printed sampling. It should be tested with the real product, insert and intended packing sequence.

Check opening, closing, bottom retention, panel bowing, glue strength, scuffing and master-carton arrangement before production approval.

Sample and approval checkpoints

Use a structural sample to verify size and fit, then a printed sample when color, material and finishing need approval. Record the accepted specification so production is checked against the same reference.
